Acts 2 describes the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in Jerusalem, as foretold by Jesus before his Ascension. As they were all gathered in one place, a violent wind filled the house, and what seemed to be tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them. They were then filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in different languages, which amazed the crowd that had gathered around them. Peter then preached a sermon, explaining that this was a fulfillment of prophecy and calling for repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. Three thousand people repented and were baptized that day, forming the first Christian community.
