About

Today's episode features an in-depth conversation on a wide range of topics with Award-winning Actress, Writer, Director & Author, KATIE BOLAND. Chosen by Elle Canada as one of the three Canadians to watch, as an actress she has more than 80 credits to her name. A multiple award winner, she’s won a Canadian Screen Award, was a TIFF Rising Star, a Birks Diamond Woman In Film, named Best Emerging Actress by the Toronto Film Screen and one of Playbacks Ten To Watch. Long Story, Short a ten-episode web-series Boland created and wrote based on her collection of personal essays premiered on Hulu and was recently re-released on Youtube and garnered hundreds of thousands of hits and called “the best new thing on the internet." For her performance, Boland won a Canadian Screen Award. Long Story, Short was nominated for Best Webseries at the Raindance Film Festival. Also an author, Boland’s collection of short stories, Eat Your Heart Out was chosen by the Globe and Mail as one of three hot summer reads, “Actress-turned-writer Katie Boland is a notable new voice in Canadian fiction...a vibrant collection, populated by well-drawn characters who are broken but bursting with life. Reminiscent of Hemingway’s sharp minimalism, paired with Kerouac’s verve, Eat Your Heart Out tackles being alive in the here and now, with sterling writing and stellar voices. Boland is a bold new old-soul.” Boland’s directorial debut, short film Lolz-Ita, that she wrote and starred in, had it’s North American premiere at the Austin Film Festival and was nominated for Best Narrative Short. It was also a part of TIFF’s Short Cuts: Share Her Journey, which highlights the “most exciting emerging female film makers in the world” as well as the Whistler Film Festival where it was nominated for the EDA Short Film Award which recognizes female film makers. It was nominated for jury prizes at the Dallas International Film Festival and Cucalorus. It was also chosen as Short Of the Week, who said, “Boland portrays the title character with commendable subtlety, fleshing out the confusion of the young woman compellingly. It’s a complicated duality to inhabit... Her performance has the power to make or break the film, and Boland wows.” Most recently, it was chosen as a Vimeo Staff Pick. Boland is currently in post production on a new short Twins and she directed, wrote and starred in the pilot ReFrame for Refinery 29 x Kate Spade. Boland was the youngest person chosen by Canadian Heritage Minister Melanie Joly to be on a panel of cultural experts who helped steer a sweeping review of cultural policies. Recently, Boland was also on the cover of IndieScreen magazine as one of Canada’s “most impressive young producers.” Katie splits her time between Toronto and Los Angeles. She has two feature films to be released in the coming year and three television series she wrote and created in development at CTV, Chorus and UCP. She is currently editing her feature debut We’re All In This Together that she wrote, directed, produced and starred as twins in.
