About
Colossians 3 begins with Paul exhorting the readers to set their minds on things that are above, not on earthly things, and to put to death their old selves and live the new life they have in Christ. He then goes on to list several practical ways in which they can do this, including putting off sinful behavior such as sexual immorality, impurity, and greed, as well as putting on the virtues of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and above all, love. Paul also addresses various interpersonal relationships, such as between husbands and wives, parents and children, and slaves and masters, urging the readers to live according to the principles of Christ in each of these areas. Overall, the chapter is a call to live in a manner consistent with the new life believers have received in Christ, and to constantly seek to be conformed to his image.
