Benjamin Hickman is the Advisor - Cities Unit, Energy and Climate Branch, United Nations Environment Programme. In this episode, 'Understanding the Future of District Cooling in Cities’, with Benjamin Hickman, we explore the concept of district cooling and how it can be implemented in the Indian context. In this episode, we start the conversation by understanding the concept of district cooling. This is followed by a discussion on infrastructure requirements for the development of hot & cold water systems across various geographical locations in the Indian context. He helps us better understand the factors like efficiency improvement, saving in power, and monetary cost of using district cooling. We further explore the implementation of this technology in existing Indian built-up space. He also explains the broad process for developing this technology for any district or any community from a technical and execution perspective, the price range variation in terms of CAPEX and OPEX as compared to normal cooling. At last, he helps us understand the future scope of work and the different skillsets required to bring district cooling technology into action in India.
