On June 11, 1962, after months of planning and preparing, Alcatraz inmates Allen West, Frank Morris, and brothers John William and Clarence Anglin, attempted to escape the famed prison in the ocean, also known as "the rock".With a seemingly short distance of just 1.25 miles to the shores of San Francisco, one might think it would be easy to make the escape. But with the freezing temperatures, rough ocean water, winds, currents, lack of proper equipment and even sharks, the odds of making it are slim. What happened to the brave foursome?
