Paula was one of the matrons and kept in touch with many of the girls through out her life. Vivien was privileged to meet some of these women who generously shared their memories. They talked about leaving their families as young children, their time in the hostel and later lives. Many of their words are included in Kino and Kinder. During a visit to Vienna (2019) Vivien visited the flat her grandmother was forced to leave in 1938, This began a quest to discover what had happened to family who had not escaped and the cinema. Using papers from the Austrian state and city archives and historical databases, Vivien reconstructed events during and after the war (1938 – 1952). Information from the archives corroborated correspondence between her father and grandmother. Peter left a contemporaneous journal that recorded his internment in the Isle of Man and Canada which gives a unique insight into the experience. He also left unpublished manuscripts with compelling details of the rise of antisemitism in Vienna in the 1930s, and his time in the Royal Navy and naval intelligence. Although Vivien has no formal training in historical methodologies, her career was spent in academia. She is very experienced working with information: finding, evaluating and verifying sources. Visits to Brno, Vienna and Windermere helped her to write Kino and Kinder. Vivien used these rich historical resources as a scaffold to build and tell the history of a twentieth century Jewish family and the Holocaust. As the daughter and grand daughter of survivors, she is in a unique position to tell their story.Website: https://www.viviensieber.eu/Vivien's book: Kino and Kinder : https://amzn.to/3M2rjHDConnect with Vivien:https://www.facebook.com/groups/372743364676132https://www.pinterest.co.uk/viviensieber/https://www.linkedin.com/in/vivien-sieberhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60691931-kino-and-kinder?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=7Join our supportive Facebook group community:https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthrivedreamConnect with me:Gmail: healthrivedream@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/healthrivedream_Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/healthrivedreamYouTube: https://youtube.com/@traumarecoveryexpertTwitter: https://twitter.com/healthrivedreamLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karenrobinson2022/Website: https://www.healthrivedream.com/Podcast: http://healthrivedreampodcast.com/abuseLoved this episode?
