Way back in 2004, when I went on this super journey to study abroad to the US, I was kinda like you, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. But guess what? It took me a long time to understand the significance of cultivating an open mindset. I was closed to people, closed to cultures and would hang out with Indians, speak Hindi in presence of foreign nationals. God, I wonder how I would have silently alienated them. Then in the next semester I had taken up a course in which I was the only Indian. I had never felt so lonely in my life as I did that day. I realized the significance of cultivating an open mindset. By that I mean becoming open to other people, being open to new ideas and experiences and being open to other cultures. Remember, every moment, every challenge, and every new friend you meet is meant to be a part of your amazing journey. So, as you think about studying abroad, keep that open mindset in your heart and get ready for the ride of a lifetime.
