John 4 tells the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus stops at a well in Samaria and meets a woman who has come to draw water. Jesus asks her for a drink, but she is shocked because Jews and Samaritans do not have dealings with each other. He tells her about the living water that he can offer and she later realizes that he is the Messiah. He then reveals that he knows that she has had multiple husbands and is living with a man who is not her husband. The woman realizes that Jesus is a prophet and they discuss worship and God. Jesus tells her that true worshipers will worship God in spirit and truth, rather than relying on a particular location. The chapter ends with the woman telling others in her village about Jesus, and many of her fellow Samaritans come to believe in him as well. Jesus then goes on to perform miracles and teach important lessons to his disciples and the people around him.
