Gautham Ravichander is the Head of Policy Initiatives, E-Government foundation. Dr. Umamaheshwaran Rajasekar is the Head of the Climate Centre for Cities and Chair of the Urban Resilience Unit at NIUA. In this episode, 'Understanding the Future of Technology in Waste and Sanitation’, with Mr Ravinchander and Dr Rajasekar, we explore the topic of solid waste management from a technology and behavioural perspective from source to sink. In the second part of the episode, we start the conversation by understanding the role of technology in enabling the waste collection, treatment, and processing as well as the safety of workers. They further explore the possibility of integrating capacity building with the education system. Additionally, they discuss various technological and behavioural innovations required to manage, monitor, and segregate waste. Further, they discuss sanitation and its financial aspects and how it can be streamlined. Moreover, the speakers give their suggestions on initiatives that citizens can take to stop pollution of natural drainage in the city, and how can gender sensitivity be established in the waste and sanitation sector. At last, the speakers help us understand the skillsets required to work in the sector of waste management and sanitation, in the next 5-10 years.
