About

Dr Sachchida Nand Tripathi is a professor at IIT Kanpur and is also a part of the steering committee for National Clean Air Program (NCAP) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. In this episode of 'Understanding the Future of Air Quality Monitoring', with Dr Sachchida Nand Tripathi, we explore the topic of air quality monitoring and how low-cost sensor-based monitoring can complement the existing ecosystem of monitoring. In this episode, we start our conversation with understanding the various parameters that are measured to monitor the air quality as well as how does the satellite and on-ground monitoring systems function. We further dive into the topic of the sensor-based low-cost monitoring device; understand how they function as well as the type of accuracy and at cost point they are available. We also explore the topic of the calibration and validation of such sensor-based devices and how they can be managed without certification, which might make the process more complex for deployment as well as scaling up of the ecosystem. Additionally, we explore the work that the National Knowledge Network will perform in training states and urban local bodies under the NCAP. At last, we discuss the skillsets to work in the field of air quality monitoring.
